Good morning everyone — we hope your week is off to a magical start.
Today we are giving our 7 essential tips when traveling to Disney with food allergies. It feels like there are a million factors to consider when planning your first Disney trip with as an allergy family, but these are going to be the basics you can fall back on 💙✨
We are also going to update you on the most exciting news stories happening around Disney World.
This is an important one, so let’s get to it 👇
Food Allergy Tip
Our Core Disney Food Allergy Tips Every Family Should Know

If you are planning a Disney trip with food allergies, it is easy to get lost in the details.
What’s going on with mobile ordering? What allergen friendly snacks are in Magic Kingdom? Can I get a gluten free bun D-Luxe Burger?
Those are all incredibly valid questions, and the good news is we’ve tackled many of them in our past content.
Also if you have more specific concerns? Our Facebook group with 24,000+ members is one of the best resources out there. Families in our community are quick to share real experiences, tips, and advice to help you feel more prepared before your trip.
With that said, today we are going to cover the foundational tips that we find ourselves coming back to again and again because they shape almost every plan you will make on your trip.
1. Say the words “food allergy” early and often
The words food allergy matter at Disney.
Once Cast Members hear those words, specific procedures are set into motion—but you have to make sure to communicate clearly.
Mention it when making reservations.
Mention it again when checking in.
Mention it when ordering.
Even if you already added allergy notes in the app, never assume that information has seamlessly followed you through every touchpoint.
Being proactive helps everyone help you.
2. ALWAYS ask to speak with a chef
Disney allergy menus can be a great starting point, but they are exactly that—a starting point. If you are managing multiple allergies these menus alone are not enough.
Whether you are at a sit down restaurant or a quick service location, you need to always ask to speak with a chef.
A Disney chef is going to be updated on the most current allergen and ingredient information, substitution possibilities, and which extra precautions need to be taken.
It isn’t a bad idea to take a look at the food allergy menu before speaking with a chef to get an idea of what you might want to order, but your conversation with the chef is where the true Disney dining “magic” will happen.
The food allergy menus also have known mistakes. For example, Sci-Fi Dine In offers dairy free milk shakes, but you won’t see that on the food allergy menu.
If there is one thing to take away from all of our content, it is to speak with a chef!
3. Quick service does not mean no accommodations
This is one of the biggest misconceptions we see. Quick service can be crowded and chaotic, so it’s easy to assume allergy support doesn’t exist
That is simply not true.
We have had great experiences at quick service locations throughout Disney. There are hidden gems everywhere, check our Facebook community (linked at the bottom) and our previous posts to find specific examples.
The key is advocating for yourself, asking questions, and understanding that the process may look a little different than table service.
Do not write off quick service automatically.
4. Stick to Disney owned restaurants
One of Disney’s biggest strengths is consistency.
All Disney-owned restaurants follow the same gold-standard allergy accommodation process that our community has successfully navigated for years.
It is important to note that just because a restaurant is located on Disney property, though, does not automatically mean it is Disney-owned.
Many restaurants, especially at Disney Springs, are operated by third parties.
That does not mean they are unsafe—and we have had great experiences at some of them as well.
But for the most predictable, standardized allergy process, Disney-owned restaurants are undoubtedly the safer bet.
5. Have a plan—but stay flexible
Social media can be amazing for trip planning, but it can also create unrealistic expectations.
It is easy to fall in love with a specific meal you saw posted in our group or on Instagram.
But Disney dining changes constantly.
Ingredients change
Suppliers change
Processes change
Menu items disappear
Go in with a plan, but have a backup
Then maybe another backup, just for fun :)
6. Set your expectations LOW
Building right off the last tip, Disney is one of the best places in the world for food allergy accommodations, but that does not mean perfection.
Things can change.
Miscommunications can happen.
A meal someone else had successfully last month may not be safe for you today. This stinks, we have been there many times, but that is reality.
This reality is not meant to put you down —it is meant to help you approach your trip with the right mindset.
One meal not going the right way does not make or break your trip, and don’t ruin a great experience by being in the wrong headspace.
7. Trust your instincts
This is the one we will always come back to.
If something feels unclear, pause.
If you are uncomfortable, ask more questions.
If you still do not feel confident, choose something else.
No meal is worth the risk.
Disney offers incredible support for allergic families—but your judgment still matters more than anything.
