The Big Change Happening to Disney Dining (And Why Allergy Families Shouldn’t Panic)

Disney is continuing to push mobile ordering through the “My Disney Experience” App and simplify menus across quick-service locations.

On the surface, that can feel like a step in the wrong direction for families managing food allergies.

Less customization visible = more uncertainty.

Here’s what you need to understand: Mobile ordering was built for speed — not for food allergies.

It’s designed to move lines faster, not to handle detailed conversations about cross-contact, ingredient swaps, or complex dietary needs.

This is where families can run into trouble.

If you rely only on what you see in the app, you’re not getting the full picture of what can actually be made safely. And that’s where mistakes happen.

It’s also important to acknowledge something most families feel in the moment.

Quick service can be overwhelming — crowded spaces, long lines, loud environments, and a lot happening all at once. It’s easy to feel rushed or pressured to just order what’s in front of you.

Take a step back. Slow it down.

Once you speak to a Cast Member and ask for a chef or allergy-trained coordinator, the entire experience shifts — and that’s when Disney’s system really works.

Now the part most people don’t realize:

At Disney-owned restaurants, the food allergy “gold standard” has not changed.

The system is still incredibly strong — but it depends on one thing: communication.

And the communication is your responsibility. It is on you to speak up, to insist on speaking with a chef, and to advocate for yourself if something doesn’t feel right.

Our best practices remain the same:

Disney is changing how you order food at quick service locations — but they are not lowering their standards for food allergies.

The “gold standard” is still there… this is how you access it the right way.

Disney has officially introduced Disney Lakeshore Lodge, a brand-new resort coming to Walt Disney World Resort with a projected opening in summer 2027.

This nature-inspired resort will sit along the shores of Bay Lake and is designed to blend Disney storytelling with the beauty of the outdoors.

The theme will pull inspiration from classic Disney films centered around nature.

Think subtle nods to movies like Bambi, Pocahontas, and Brother Bear — all brought to life through architecture, artwork, and overall atmosphere.

It’s shaping up to be one of the more unique resort themes Disney has done in years.

The resort will feature 967 rooms, ranging from smaller studios to larger multi-bedroom accommodations.

There will also be new waterfront “Lake Houses,” giving families more space and direct access to the natural surroundings.

Some rooms will even offer views of Bay Lake by day and Magic Kingdom fireworks by night.

Disney is also emphasizing a slower, more relaxed experience with this resort.

Large windows, natural light, and immersive scenery are all part of the design — creating a space where guests can truly unwind while still being close to the parks.

More details on dining, recreation, and amenities are expected in the coming months as Disney continues to share updates through its new “Letters from Lakeshore” series.
