Girl Scouts Announces Its First Allergy-Friendly Cookie for 2027

It's gluten-free, vegan, and formulated without the top nine major food allergens.

For families navigating food allergies, Girl Scout Cookie season isn’t exactly something we have circled on our calendars. While everyone else is picking out their favorite cookies, many children and adults with allergies are left out entirely.

This announcement is changing things for us.

The Girl Scouts of America has officially unveiled Girl Scout Sparkables™, its first dedicated allergy-friendly cookie, arriving for the 2027 Girl Scout Cookie season.

Created in partnership with Partake Foods, Sparkables are crunchy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies dotted with colorful sprinkles.

But the most exciting part isn't the flavor. It's how these cookies are being made.

What makes Sparkables allergy-friendly?

According to Girl Scouts, Sparkables are formulated without all nine major food allergens:

  • Milk

  • Eggs

  • Peanuts

  • Tree nuts

  • Wheat

  • Soy

  • Sesame

  • Fish

  • Crustacean shellfish

They're also gluten-free, vegan, and nut-free.

That gluten-free distinction is particularly important. While avoiding wheat is part of the top-nine-allergen formulation, gluten can also come from barley and rye. Sparkables are specifically marketed as gluten-free.

The cookies are made with ingredients including whole-grain oats, oat flour, cassava flour, white rice flour, chocolate chips, and colorful sprinkles.

As always, you should review the final package label to determine whether the product meets their individual dietary needs.

What about cross-contact?

This is one of the biggest questions we had when the cookies were announced.

Girl Scouts says Sparkables were developed with Partake in a facility designed to avoid the nine major food allergens.

According to the company's published information, the facility does not process other products containing those allergens, and production and packaging equipment is sanitized during changeovers.

That's encouraging information for families concerned about cross-contact.

Could these be a school-friendly option?

As we said, Sparkables are marketed as gluten-free, nut-free, vegan, and allergy-friendly, which could make them an option for some classrooms, school events, and group activities.

For children who have spent years watching their classmates enjoy treats they couldn't eat, this is really meaningful.

Of course, every school has its own food allergy policies. Parents and caregivers should review the final packaging and confirm that the cookies meet their school's specific requirements before bringing them into a classroom.

When and where can you buy them?

Here's another important detail: Sparkables will be an online-exclusive Girl Scout Cookie.

They will be available through the Girl Scouts' Digital Cookie platform for direct shipping nationwide beginning January 12, 2027, with availability also tied to the start of local cookie seasons, which may begin earlier.

That means you shouldn't expect to find them at your neighborhood Girl Scout Cookie booth.

Girl Scouts is already allowing families to sign up for notifications ahead of the 2027 season.

Our takeaway 💙

We're excited to see a major organization like Girl Scouts introduce a product specifically designed with food allergies in mind.

It's not just about having another cookie on the shelf. It's about giving more children and families the opportunity to participate in a tradition that so many people look forward to every year.

We'll continue following Sparkables as the 2027 season approaches and share any additional information that becomes available.

Disney News

Around Disney: This Week's Dining Updates

Now let's head back to Walt Disney World for a few stories worth keeping an eye on.

EPCOT Food & Wine Festival Is Underway

The 2026 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival is underway, and Disney has a special process for guests with food allergies at its Global Marketplaces.

At many Disney operated booths, Cast Members can use a dedicated phone to contact a chef or culinary team member about your allergies. They'll discuss the ingredients and preparation process to help determine whether a particular dish can accommodate your needs.

Our recommendation always stays the same. Inform the Cast Member about your allergies before ordering, ask to speak with the Chef, and don't hesitate to skip a booth if you aren't comfortable with the information provided.

Halloween Treats Are Back at Magic Kingdom

📸 wdwinfo.com

Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is running on select nights through October 31, bringing special entertainment, themed food, and trick-or-treating back to Magic Kingdom.

For families navigating food allergies, Halloween season is another one that isn’t high on our list. But as you may know, Disney does things a little bit differently.

Guests can request a teal allergy-friendly treat bag and collect tokens at participating trick-or-treat locations. Those tokens can then be exchanged for allergy-friendly treats at designated locations.

It's a great way for more children to participate in one of the biggest traditions of Halloween.

If you're attending the party this fall, make sure to ask a Cast Member about the current allergy-friendly trick-or-treating locations and procedures.

New Dining Options Are Arriving at Disney's BoardWalk

📸 Official Disney Concept Image

Disney recently shared a first look at the menu for Hurly-Burly, a new dining offering at Disney's BoardWalk.

The menu announcement adds another option to watch for guests planning meals outside the theme parks.

For our food allergy community, we'll be interested to learn more about the location's ingredient information, preparation procedures, and ability to accommodate individual dietary requests.

As with any new Disney dining location, we recommend confirming accommodations directly with the restaurant rather than assuming a dish is suitable based on its menu description or social media posts.

We'll keep an eye out for additional allergy-specific details as they become available.
